Symbolism
COLOR : In act II as well as much of the play, Hamlet is wearing all black. Black in literature and in the world has been used to symbolize death. grievance, bad, and evil. In the play, Hamlet wears all black to grieve his father, and it describes his sadness of his fathers death and his melancholy mood. However, early in Act II Hamlet changes into a paler color of clothes almost appearing ghostly. I believe that his change in clothes is representative of his changing mood, as he is now become focused on his revenge of his father.
TYPE OF SPEECH: Shakespeare often uses the difference of Prose and Verse to separate the class of characters in his plays. A high class character speaks in verse, while as lower class would talk in prose. Often however, if a higher class character speaks in prose it brings him down and represents something bad. In this case, when hamlet is speaking in Act II, him talking in Prose is representative of him going crazy and becoming paranoid.
